Colossians 3:18-25

The Domestic Life of Believers:

The success of our homes depends on our willingness to follow God’s blueprint.

Building your home according to biblical principles creates a solid foundation that will bring success (Matt.7:24-25).

Christ is the head of man. Man is the head of the woman. The husband and wife are the head of the children (1 Cor. 11:1).

Paul defines each family member’s role and God’s structure for the home.

1. Duties of Wives (Eph. 5:22)

Paul instructs the wife to submit to her husband's leadership not because he promotes chauvinistic behavior but for the sake of divine order.

Submit in Greek means “to stand under.” The word suggests subordination, obedience, submission, subservience, and subjection.

2. Duties of Husbands (Eph. 5:25)

The type of love Paul refers to for husbands is “agape.”

A husband is to mimic the example of Christ by loving his wife the same way that Jesus loves the church.

God has established the husband as the home's priest and prophet. His job is to guide, guard, and govern.

Most men are loyal, but when the wife has agreed with something “foreign” (Gen. 3:6), the man tends to satisfy his wife to keep the peace – Pastor Claude Bevier.

3. Duties of Children (Eph. 6:1-3)

Paul tells Colossian children that their obedience to their parents is pleasing to the Lord.

4. Duties of Fathers (Eph. 6:4)

The Christian Father is to provide godly encouragement and training for his children.

The Believers Public life:

Paul speaks to the Colossians about their public affairs (Col. 3:22-24).

1. Duties of Servants (Eph. 6:5)

As a believer, you must have a submissive and humble attitude toward your employer.

(Col. 3:25) – Paul is addressing the principle of sowing and reaping.
